Ministry in Brazil

In September of 2017, we moved to the city of Fortaleza in northeastern Brazil to begin a new church plant, to work with a ministry training national leaders, and to help out in a local orphanage. Parterning with national leaders, we have been invited to develop a church planting training center in partnership with local churches and/or seminary.

We rented our first facililty for our new church plant and inaugurated the location in Feb 2019 with our first official Sunday evening service.  Our Sunday services have about 70 people, and we are praying to reach our community with the Gospel and see many new believers join our church plant.  God has blessed us with a team of 4 Brazilian families who are helping in this new church plant as well. Also, on Thursday evenings we lead a Bible club time at a local orphanage, and on Saturdays bring them to youth group and Sundays to our church services.

Working with training church planters, we are partning with two local seminaries, several churches, and Ministérios Multiculturais Maranata (MMM)--a Brazilian mission agency that was born out of a small Baptist church in Fortaleza. This agency has been instrumental in sending over 35 Brazilian missionaries to 12 different countries, where they are evangelizing, discipling, and planting churches. Brazilian missionaries are now being sent to countries around the world where Americans often have difficulty going. (*see: http://www.abwe.org/resources/stories/joining-movement)

Evangelical missions has been present in Brazil for over 150 years. Countless churches have been established. And now Brazil is on the verge of becoming a major sending force for global missions, but there is still much work to do. Our primary focus will be in training and mobilizing Brazilian church planters for both local and cross cultural contexts. The following are some of the key objectives we will focus on in the develpment of a church planting training center:

training
  1. Challenge Brazilian churches and leaders to become more engaged in church planting.
  2. Assess those who are interested in pursuing church planting.
  3. Teach a Biblical theology of church planting.
  4. Train church planters for local and global contexts.
  5. Equip church planters and churches with resources to facilitate their church planting ministry.
  6. Promote church planting movements in Brazil and around the world.
  7. Provide ongoing coaching and counseling for church planters.
